In the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Mexico, under the guidance of coach Javier Aguirre, aimed to make a significant impact on the global stage. The tournament was held in South Africa, and Mexico’s squad featured a blend of experienced veterans and promising young talents, all donning the iconic green jerseys. Mexico was placed in Group A alongside the hosts South Africa, Uruguay, and France, setting the stage for a challenging yet exciting group stage.
Mexico kicked off the tournament on June 11, 2010, against South Africa in the opening match at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Rafael Márquez scoring the equalizer in the 79th minute after Siphiwe Tshabalala had given the hosts the lead. The result was a decent start, showing Mexico’s resilience and capability to perform under pressure in a packed stadium.
The second group match saw Mexico face France on June 17 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. In a memorable performance, Mexico secured a 2-0 victory over the French side, with goals from Javier Hernández and veteran Cuauhtémoc Blanco, who scored from the penalty spot. This victory was significant as it bolstered Mexico’s chances of advancing to the knockout stages and demonstrated their tactical discipline and attacking prowess.
In the final group stage match on June 22, Mexico played against Uruguay at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg. Despite a hard-fought game, Mexico fell to a 1-0 defeat, with Luis Suárez scoring the only goal. However, Mexico’s earlier performances were enough to see them finish second in the group, thus advancing to the Round of 16.
In the knockout stage, Mexico faced a formidable Argentine team on June 27 at Soccer City Stadium. The match proved challenging, and Mexico was defeated 3-1. Carlos Tévez and Gonzalo Higuaín scored for Argentina, with Javier Hernández netting a consolation goal for Mexico. Despite the exit, Mexico’s overall performance in the tournament was commendable, showing flashes of brilliance and potential for future competitions.
Throughout the tournament, notable players like Rafael Márquez, Javier Hernández, and Cuauhtémoc Blanco led by example, while younger talents such as Giovani dos Santos and Carlos Vela provided glimpses of the future for Mexican football. The blend of experience and youth in the squad showcased Mexico’s depth and potential on the world stage.

It all started when we were around 5 or 6 years old…
We would go to school in the day, and then go back home. Then, we’d be out and about for the rest of the day. We were playing football with the rest of the kids from around our home all day.
We were playing for hours, and we never stopped, even if our moms called us to get inside. We would yell “10 more minutes!”, right before spending another two hours on the field.
It didn’t matter whether it was sunny, rainy, or there was a snowstorm. We were still playing, from Spring to Winter, every single day.
And we were wearing the same jerseys you can find on our store. We are more than a jersey company…
We want to help you Relive the Memories Through Old-School Jerseys.
