Description
This is the fully-customizable short-sleeve home kit for Scotland’s 1978 World Cup Campaign.
Scotland entered the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina with high hopes, spurred by the confidence of manager Ally MacLeod and a squad brimming with talent. The team was drawn into Group 4, where they faced Peru, the Netherlands, and Iran. Despite their strong lineup, the tournament proved to be a rollercoaster of emotions for the Scottish team and their supporters.
Scotland’s campaign kicked off against Peru on June 3, 1978, at the Chateau Carreras stadium in Córdoba. The Scots started brightly with Joe Jordan giving them an early lead in the 14th minute. However, the match soon turned against them as Peru equalized through César Cueto just before half-time. Teófilo Cubillas then took control in the second half, scoring twice to seal a 3-1 victory for Peru. The defeat was a setback for Scotland, raising immediate questions about their ability to progress from the group stage.
Their next match against Iran on June 7, 1978, was expected to be more straightforward. However, the game turned out to be a frustrating encounter. Scotland took the lead in the 43rd minute thanks to an own goal by Iranian defender Andranik Eskandarian. But Iran fought back, and Iraj Danaeifard equalized in the 60th minute, leaving Scotland with a disappointing 1-1 draw. This result meant Scotland needed a win in their final group match to have any chance of advancing.
On June 11, 1978, Scotland faced a formidable Dutch team in Mendoza. The Netherlands, finalists in the previous World Cup, were heavy favorites. The match saw Scotland delivering one of their most memorable World Cup performances. Rob Rensenbrink’s penalty gave the Dutch a 1-0 lead, but Scotland responded brilliantly. Kenny Dalglish equalized just before half-time, and Archie Gemmill scored twice in quick succession, including a penalty, to put Scotland 3-1 ahead. Despite Johnny Rep pulling a goal back for the Netherlands, Scotland held on for a famous 3-2 victory.
Unfortunately for Scotland, the victory was not enough to secure progression to the next round. Their earlier results against Peru and Iran meant they finished third in the group, behind Peru and the Netherlands, and were eliminated on goal difference. The 1978 World Cup campaign ended in disappointment, but the victory over the Netherlands remains a highlight in Scottish football history, showcasing the potential and spirit of the team.

It all started when we were around 5 or 6 years old…
We would go to school in the day, and then go back home. Then, we’d be out and about for the rest of the day. We were playing football with the rest of the kids from around our home all day.
We were playing for hours, and we never stopped, even if our moms called us to get inside. We would yell “10 more minutes!”, right before spending another two hours on the field.
It didn’t matter whether it was sunny, rainy, or there was a snowstorm. We were still playing, from Spring to Winter, every single day.
And we were wearing the same jerseys you can find on our store. We are more than a jersey company…
We want to help you Relive the Memories Through Old-School Jerseys.
