Despite a setback in a 1-2 home loss to Denmark, Yugoslavia quickly recovered with a resounding 7-0 victory over the Faroe Islands, featuring a brace from Pančev and goals from various other team members.

The final matches saw Yugoslavia secure a 2-0 win against Austria, with Dejan Savićević and Vladan Lukić on the scoresheet, followed by a 2-0 away victory against the Faroe Islands. Throughout the qualifiers, Yugoslavia scored an impressive 24 goals while conceding only 4, underscoring their dominance in both attack and defense.

However, political turmoil off the pitch had a profound impact on the team’s future. The outbreak of the Yugoslav Wars led to the imposition of United Nations sanctions on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Consequently, on May 31, 1992, just weeks before the start of the Euro 1992 tournament, FIFA and UEFA suspended Yugoslavia from all competitive football. This suspension not only prevented them from participating in the tournament but also marked the end of an era for the Yugoslav national team.
